ST ANDREWS CLASS
Cleveland, Tennessee
1955-2009
The St Andrews Class was organized in 1955 by Ruth Hayworth (teacher) and several young couples that desired to learn more about the Bible. The class chose the International Lesson Annual as its main reference for study. Each lesson is prepared by at least three Bible Scholars with bible references coming from the NIV and the NRSV versions of the Bible.
Class members have been active in all phases of church activities including teaching (children’s classes), choir, various councils and committees such as education, church council, and building. The church has gone through one renovation at the South Ocoee building in 1958, and two construction projects at our current location on North Ocoee Street since the class was organized. Class members have played a significant roll in each of these projects.
Outreach has been a significant part of class activities. The class has contributed thousands of dollars to local, national, and worldwide (UMCOR) needy projects over the past fifty years. New members coming into the class have made it possible for the class to continue its outreach through the years. Only one member from the original class remains active.
Social activities were a big part of class activities in the early years before families started growing and consuming more and more time. We currently have at least one fellowship activity at Christmas with emphasis on helping needy children. Age range for the class is mostly between fifty and seventies at the present time.
We invite anyone looking for fellowship, learning opportunities, and becoming a part of mission work to join us at 9:30 each Sunday morning.
